The Mess That Is the Vikings' Free Agency

But to start, the dream of getting Landry at Safety is out the window. He signed with the Jets. So the Vikings made an offer to their free agent S, Husain Abdullah. I question this considering the conconussions he had, and spending so much time on IR in 2011 due to a concussion. I feel they'd be better off looking at Reggie Smith, S, 49ers.

Secondly, the CB pool is becoming threatened. Tracy Porter is visiting with the Titans, has visited the Bengals and has interest from the Rams, Raiders and Saints. William Gay is also visiting the Titans. Of course Adam 'Pacman' Jones is still out there too... His past is behind him... I'm really starting to think that with Chris Cook be acquitted of all charges that the Vikings won't go after a CB in the free agency and will wait for the draft to address this need. In fact, it's said that Alabama CB Dre Kirkpatrick which makes me think they might be trading their number #3 pick. I would still disagree with picking him due to their VERY big need for a GOOD LT (Matt Kalil at #3, Riley Reiff or Jonathan Martin if we trade). Geoff Schwartz visited and would be a good RG/RT but don't think he'd fit into the LT role currently occupied by Charlie Johnson who needs to move to LG.

No more talk about WRs and no word if Devin Aromashodu has been made an offer as of yet by the Vikings. Again, I'm thinking the Vikings may just wait for the draft to address this. The WR position is deep and for some reason, some people think that Notre Dame WR Michael Floyd might fall to the 2nd round. If that happened, that would be gold struck if he's still available at the Vikings 35th pick! Floyd (ND), Rudolph(ND), Carlson(ND), Harvin. That would look nice!!

The thing I was most shocked about was the fact that FB Jerome Felton is visiting the Vikings tomorrow. They just signed Lex Hilliard yesterday, why are they bringing in Felton? It was my understanding that Hilliard was brought in to fill the FB role? Who knows. But Felton is a former FB from the Colts who signed him after the Panther waived him after the Lions waived him after they drafted him in the 5th round of the 2008 draft. Never scored a touchdown, has 136 rushing yards averaging 3.2 yards a run and 34 receptions for 280 yards. He is 6'0" and 241 lbs. Definitely fits the bill for a FB.

But I'm starting to get too confused with what the Vikings are doing. Desperately need to sign Henderson, a WR, an ILB, a CB and they keep refusing to make any of those moves. Granted, WR and CB can be addressed early in the draft, so Erin Henderson and a young ILB should be priority. I know Tulloch, Lofton and Hawthorne are still available...

This is the mess that is the Vikings' free agency! More to come...
